Performers
Gabriel McMahon
Gabriel McMahon is a classical flute player and ethnomusicologist currently working on his masters thesis on the matusiflute. Having graduated from WAAPA in 2022, Gabriel has been involved in numerous performance opportunities in diverse settings throughout Western Australia and Sydney; notably as principal flautist in the West Australian Wind Symphony, and as a dîzí player in the Chung Wah orchestra. Gabriel loves making and enjoying a good cup of coffee - and is often seen embroidering on a swanky pair of pants!

Gabby Lee
Gabby is a percussion educator, freelance percussionist and composer based in Perth, Western Australia. As a WAAPA graduate, Gabby holds a wide range of skills from percussion, composition, electronic music production and production management. As a composer-performer, Gabby's personal works seek to explore a deeper understanding into the human condition and finding direction to hope through storytelling. Her compositions are very much inspired by her Christian identity and is often the drive for the creative projects she pursues. Fun fact- Gabby enjoys watching Star Wars, and her favourite character is Ahsoka.

Elena Wittkuhn
Elena Wittkuhn is a Perth-based cellist passionate about performing music both old and new. A graduate from the Conservatorium of Music at UWA and a 2020 Wesley Music Scholar, Elena has held the positions of Principal Cellist of the West Coast Philharmonic Orchestra and Associate Principal Cellist with the West Australian Youth Orchestra; as well as being a frequent Principal guest artist with ensembles such as a2 orchestra and various Perth-based chamber groups. Elena is passionate about increasing accessibility to new works, having co-founded the DEWE quartet in 2023 for this purpose, as well as frequently collaborating with composers and artists across the country. Outside of performing, Elena can usually be found teaching, or at the beach on a day off!

Melissa Fitzgerald
Dr Melissa Fitzgerald has established herself as an in-demand soloist and chamber musician. Her passion for chamber music led her to create the Perth Guitar Quartet in 2013. In 2023, they released their album “West Australian Landscapes” to a sold-out performance at the 2023 Perth International Classical Guitar Festival. The concert was hailed as “a stunning performance” which “…will no doubt put Perth on the radars of concert goers from all over the globe.” (rtrfm.com.au). As a featured soloist, in 2021 she performed Torroba’s Sonatina for Guitar and Orchestra with the West Coast Philharmonic Orchestra as well as Villa-Lobos’ Concerto for Guitar and Orchestra with the Fremantle Symphony Orchestra. Currently, Melissa teaches guitar chamber music at the UWA Conservatorium of Music and is an examiner for the AMEB. Additionally, she maintains a full studio at Trinity College and Mercedes College. In her spare time over the summer she has been working on improving her Slovenian and has been getting back into cycling, putting in just over 150km a week on the bike.

She is enthusiastic about the performance and creation of contemporary classical guitar works, particularly by Australian and female composers. Her compositions draw inspiration from such diverse artists as Carolina Eyck, Joni Mitchell, and the Oh Hellos. She specialises in composition with looping station. In 2020 Abbey undertook honours research into contemporary classical guitar works by Australian women composers, culminating in a recital of four works. She has since performed selections of these works in a variety of contexts, including at the semi-finals of the 2022 Adelaide Guitar Competition and in solo concerts. In 2023, Abbey was selected as Ensemble Offspring’s Hatched Associate Artist, which involved her commissioning a new work from Christine Pan and performing with them in October 2023. Abbey enjoys making things that are much easier to buy, such as sourdough, kombucha, and butter. She also loves a good cup of tea.
