Scott Galbraith's new work Sharing has been a pleasure to work on, again, though it has definitely changed since its inception in STRUT's Shortcuts season. While becoming a longer work, it has also become a more grounded work; we have a greater sense of what we are trying to convey through the choreography and music. What are we trying to convey? Well, you should go see it. Its the final showing (for now)!
Essentially, we are exploring the connection between music and dance, musician and dancer. The rehearsal process has proved this is to be a more complex relationship than I'd anticipated, trying to communicate across boundaries of different terminology. Finally, though, it seems we've reached some common understanding, and that has been a joy to experience. I too have developed as a musician, working closely with my Boss RC-300 loop station to create soundscapes and introduce new structure. While the work was always semi-improvised, there is definitely a complete two minutes of improvisation now! It really has been an awesome experience. I just hope I can work with more fantastic dancers and choreographers into the future.
